A Colnago road bike in unfamiliar surroundings. Riding from Punggol Waterway park to Coney Island Singapore. Also known as Pulau Serangoon, Coney Island was only recently reopened to the public in 2015.
Before the opening, cyclists and park visitors have been wondering about what this rather large stretch of dense forest along the coast was hiding. Being an untouched island surrounded by housing developments make it an enticing oddball in a landscape of refined and rather developed urban parks.
After spending the day trying to unsuccessfully cycle my road bike on the slippery forest floor, I call Coney Island mini Pulau Ubin. The untouched nature of this space feels rather sacred in a country with diminishing green spaces.
